Maharishi Charaka, an ancient Indian doctor and scholar, was born in Kashmir in 300 B.C. He is known as the father of Ayurveda because he organized its ideas and practices.
Kashmir is known as the “Paradise on Earth” or “Jannat-e-Kashmir.”
His book, the Charaka Samhita, explains topics like the human body, how it works, ways to find illnesses, and methods to treat them. This book helped shape Ayurveda as we know it today.
Humans interact with the world using five senses: hearing, sight, touch, smell, and taste.
Most people know this, but not everyone knows that each sense is linked to one of the five elements: ether, air, fire, water, and earth.
Every person is unique because their body has a different mix of these five elements.
The three Doshas
1.Vata Dosha: Made from ether and air, Vata controls movement in the body. It governs nerve impulses, circulation, breathing, and elimination.
2.Pitta Dosha: Made from fire and water, Pitta is responsible for transformation and metabolism. It helps turn food into nutrients and manages metabolism in the organs, tissues, and cells.
3.Kapha Dosha: Made from water and earth, Kapha is responsible for growth and structure. It helps build and protect the body, like the cerebral-spinal fluid protecting the brain and spinal cord and the mucosal lining in the stomach protecting tissues.
Ayurveda brings balance to the body by fixing the main cause of the imbalance in the doshas, especially Vata.
